Donald Trump has won the Iowa caucuses by a wide margin, easily outdistancing his Republican presidential rivals.

Estimated results gave the former President 51 percent of the vote. Garnering the second-highest support was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, with 21 percent. Not far behind, with 19 percent, was former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley. Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy finished a distant fourth and ended his presidential campaign, in the process endorsing Trump.

Trump, who largely ignored campaigning in the state, won the most votes in 98 of Iowa's 99 counties and lost the sole outlier by just one vote. He easily outpolled his rivals in every demographic. Many observers had predicted a high turnout, and that is what many caucus sites reported, even as a fierce snowstorm descended on the state. Overall, however, the turnout was less than in 2016.

The win was the second in Iowa for Trump, who finished second behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in 2016 and, as the incumbent president in 2020, cruised to victory in that year.

The scene now shifts to New Hampshire, the nation's first primary of this year. Voters from both parties will vote there, on January 23. The Iowa caucuses were for the Republican Party only. The Democratic date for Iowa is March 4.
