Newly sworn-in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has selected some of his former TV show colleagues to play roles in his administration.

Volodomyr Zelensky

Zelenskiy, who before his election was most well-known for playing the president on TV, has named a producer in the Kvartal 95 TV studio, Serhiy Trofimov, as deputy head of the presidency. In a similar vein, Zelenskiy named Ivan Bakanov, who was in charge of the TV studio and who also set up Zelenskiy's political party, as deputy head of the state security service.

Other such officials taking up such roles will be Kvartal 95 production company co-founder Serhi Shefirm, who will serve as first aide to the president, and Kvartal 95 scriptwriter Yuriy Kostiuk, who will serve as an administration deputy.

Non-entertainment officials will take up other important roles. Andriy Bohdan, a lawyer who played a prominent role in the election campaign and who once worked for one of Zelenskiy's prime backers, Ihor Kolomoisky, will be head of the administration. Bohdan got work right away, announcing that if parliament was looking to make a peace deal with Russia–to resolve the ongoing deadly war in the eastern part of the country–then the government will call for a public referendum on the deal as well.

Zelenskiy, in his inaugural address, dissolved parliament and called for a new election. The date for that is now set: July 21.
