Smell of Summer: Scratch-n-sniff Stamps
Why stop at one sense when you can have three? That's one idea behind the new scratch-and-sniff stamps from the U.S. Postal Service, to be issued on June 20. The designs for the stamps are known; the smell will be a surprise. The Postal Service will issue 10 different designs of two ice pops on a stick. The colors and patterns on the sticks vary, featuring stripes, squiggles, lines, and swirls. A booklet of 20 Frozen Treats Forever stamps will contain all 10 pairs. Applying pressure to the front of the stamp will release a smell. The Postal Service has yet to reveal what that smell will be, preferring to wait for the dedication ceremony, to be June 20 at Thinkery Children's Museum in Austin, Texas. A Postal Service press release mentions a number of flavors, among them blueberries, chocolate, cola, kiwifruit, oranges, root beer, strawberries, and watermelon. |
