Iditarod 2025: Teacher on the Trail
March 4, 2026 Maggie Hamilton of Mitchell, Indiana, is the 2025 Iditarod Teacher on the Trail. She will travel with the contestants and report from the trail, conducting interviews and then posting updates on the Iditarod website. 
She is a 5th Grade teacher at Burris Elementary School. She has made the Iditarod the focus of her lessons in math, reading, and social studies. In fact, the school as a whole focuses on the Iditarod. She has three dogs of her own, of course: One is a labrador, one is a mastiff, and one is a yorkie-poo. Maggie is married; she and her husband have two children, Cooper (12) and Kinzie (9). The Teacher on the Trail program began in 1998, with a fund-raising effort by Andrea Aufder Heyde. The race began in 1973. |
