was twice a Vice-presidential candidate, in 1836 and 1840.
He had 15 children, the most of any President.
While in the White House, he had an Italian greyhound named Le Beau.
He considered himself an outlaw because he was alienated from both major political parties, so he named his homestead Sherwood Forest, after the home of the legendary English outlaw Robin Hood.
He studied law under Edmund Randolph, America's first Attorney General.
