Definition: Abbreviation meaning "the Senate and the People of the Rome." In Latin, it was Senatus Populusque Romanus. It meant that the symbol of Rome was the Senate and the people, not the emperor. The slogan was carved into the walls of many public buildings and on the battle flags of the Roman legions.
