• Akkadians


Definition: Akkadian leader who was the first emperor (2340-2305 B.C.). Under his leadership, Akkad conquered Sumer and established a strong, stable empire in Mesopotamia. At one point, Sargon controlled territory from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Black Sea in the northeast.
