• Alexander the Great


Definition: Name of 15 pharaohs. Several of the Ptolemies ruled by themselves; others ruled jointly with other pharaohs. The first ruled after the death of Alexander the Great, in 323 B.C. The last was co-ruler with Cleopatra. These Egyptian rulers are not to be confused with the geographer and scientist Ptolemy, whose real name was Claudius Ptolemy and who lived in the first century A.D.
