Definition: Peninsula in the central Greek world, separated from the mainland by the Isthmus of Corinth, and containing several large city-states, including Sparta, Argos, Olympia, and Corinth. During the Peloponnesian War, Sparta dominated the Peloponnesus. Many battles were fought there.
