Definition: Consul and member, along with Pompey and Julius Caesar, of the First Triumvirate. Crassus was head of the province of Syria and was killed by Parthians because of what they saw as his interference in their affairs. Crassus also played a leading role in the defeat of the slave revolt begun by Spartacus.
