Definition: Mexican War hero who won the famous Battle of Mexico City by storming three huge castles. Scott originally fought in the War of 1812 and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Queenston Heights. He was commander of the army during the Mexican War and (briefly) the Civil War. He ran for president in 1852 as a Whig but was defeated.
