Definition: Trail that the Mormons followed on their migration west to Utah. The trail stretched west, from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Utah. About 70,000 Mormons followed in the footsteps of Joseph Smith, their prophet, to their Promised Land. They eventually formed the State of Deseret, the Utah Territory, and the state of Utah.
