Definition: Advisors to the President of the United States. The Executive Branch has several departments. Each department has a Secretary, who reports directly to the President. The first Cabinet, under President George Washington, had four members: Thomas Jefferson (Secretary of State), Alexander Hamilton (Secretary of Treasury), Henry Knox (Secretary of War), and Edmund Randolph (Attorney General).
