• Telegraph


Definition: Artist and inventor most famous for the development of a workable, easiliy produced electric telegraph. The first telegraph was between Baltimore and Washington in 1844. Just 17 years later, telegraph lines stretched from coast to coast. Morse also came up with a code of dots-and-dashes that stood for letters and numbers. This was called the Morse Code. The telegraph made it possible for people to send instant messages over long distances, without having to wait for mail delivery.
