The Jyrobike is a bicycle that balances itself.

Jyrobike, a company based in Belfast and Philadelphia, has launched a child-sized bicycle that uses an inner gyroscope to steady the machine, eliminating the need for training wheels. The gyroscope is within the front wheel, which is a spinning flywheel. Parents or other operators can control the speed of the flywheel. The greater the speed, the more stability. As the rider learns to ride with more confidence, he or she can opt for a slower flywheel, allowing for more rider control of the bike.

An internal battery powers the bike. The battery can store a charge that lasts for three hours.

The company has launched a Kickstarter campaign, with a goal of $100,000. Initial reports were that donations had passed the halfway mark.

The company has plans for an adult-sized bike, possibly as early as 2015.
