Balloons Fill the Albuquerque Sky October 9, 2006
The Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta began during the weekend, in conjunction with the city's tricentennial. Hundreds of hot air balloons ascended into the sky, part of the annual event that brings enthusiasts from all over the world. The Balloon Fiesta will involve races, fashion competitions, wine tastings, a car show, a fireworks show, and a chainsaw wook carving contest. The events go on for a week. The crowds routinely number in the hundreds of thousands. Other events take place at the fiesta as well, including stage shows and children's events. The events will take place at the city's Balloon Fiesta Park, which contains a 78-acre launch park. The Fiesta itself is more than 30 years old. This year's event celebrates the 300th anniversary of the founding of the city.
